• You are allowed fruit while on the diet but not on the detox. During the detox, you will refrain from eating fruit. When you start the diet, you are also encouraged to refrain from dried or citrus fruits, as well.

  • Yes, this is a normal side effect and may last up to 10 days. Lisa recommends mixing your coconut oil and MCT oil with breakfast to reduce nausea or taking small amounts throughout the day. Be aware that exercising right after you take your supplements can make you nauseated.

  • You want to intermittent fast from carbs between 6 pm and 12 pm the next day. 18 hours of no carbs! Every day. If you eat at 7PM, your lunch time moves to 1pm.

  • No, you must use S. Boulardii capsules. You cannot use just any probiotic. Good brands include KlaireLabs and Pure Encapsulations.

  • You can start the cleanse whenever you'd like without the supplements. In fact, DON’T wait for your supplements. Get started eliminating foods and then start the supplements as the arrive. Rolling out the supplements may also mitigate nausea.

  • Yes, it is listed as a no because of allergies but you can.

  • It’s not advised. Try to stick with getting off anything you are usually consuming. Water is the best beverage during the diet + detox.

  • Yes, this is a good thing, it means you are digesting quickly.

  • No. But I do have a supplier who will be selling the full bundle. Check back to this space.

  • Try to eliminate all processed foods during the diet so they are well out of your system by the time you reach the detox portion of GNB.

  • You can choose whichever is better for you.

  • Usually, when I get up in the morning, I start with a stretch and some breathing. Then I have a cup of lemon water while I feed the dog and take hm for a walk. Nearly 20 minutes later, I’ll have my supplements including my Ascended Health probiotic. Usually, if I can, I wait another 10-30 minutes before I eat my s. Boulardii. It really depends on your morning schedule. I have also tried having lemon water, s. Boulardii next and then my supplements last. This works, too.

  • You can always back off calcium if you need to. I did that during my first GNB diet, not deliberately, but the pill bottle was so large I had to keep it in a different cupboard and I often forget to take them. I doubled up on spinach.

  • Honestly, I just don’t think that anyone with an eating disorder should do this kind of program with me without help from their therapist, and possibly a nutritionist + coach, as well.

That said, I have worked with women who have eating disorders. It is tricky and largely depends on the person. If I know someone has an eating disorder, I ask them to work with their therapist and if they have therapist approval, they can work with me. Or, I also tell them they can do it on their own with their therapist. If I don’t know they have an eating disorder but it comes out during the diet or detox, then I tell them to seek therapy. Here in Cleveland, I have a list of therapists on hand.

What worries me the most for people with eating disorders are the triggers. For some, the ‘rules’ and the withdrawal from foods may cause a major binge. That’s a red flag and they should be stop immediately. For others, intermittent fasting is the answer to their dreams and gives them an excuse not to eat. This isn’t a good idea, either because it’s feeding into their disorder. For others, they get on such a health kick that everything else in the world is ‘poison.’ Still a little over the top!

It’s not a bad program for some because it really helps people reduce sugar, stabilize their cravings, feel satisfied – but all of this takes a few weeks to establish and it’s in those first weeks that triggers can happen.

And also, if they are doing it for weight loss and not for health, that’s a red flag, too. But now we are walking the fine line between Orthorexia and healthy eating. Because there are those who are doing it for health, but that can grow out of control. Also, GNB takes Herculean strength, something I just don’t think people with eating disorders should mess with.

I keep telling everyone that the GNB program was developed to help detox the brain, which in turn, detoxes the body – but only secondarily to the brain. So, in the end, I would only think it would be good for someone if they have made significant steps toward healthy attitudes about food and body image. Most of the people who sign up for cleanses with me (I’ve been offering them since 2008 at my studio) really want to get off the Doritos and wine and feel better.

Disordered patterns are things like taking the intermittent fasting too seriously so they even wait to take their vitamins. Binge eating. Being obsessive about which vitamins are best. Being obsessive with organic foods (there is a bit of that in the diet tho, so there’s a fine line).

  • I talked with my dermatologist about this a while ago. I don’t remember exactly what she said but I thought she said that it takes about 6 months for the body to start absorbing the skin but there’s only so much it will absorb. This is such a great question though and will spend some more time researching it.

    Here’s an article: https://www.healthline.com/health/how-to-tighten-loose-skin

  • Don’t be afraid to try a iron supplement, but you may want to talk with your doctor about this. Also remember, the gut biome IS starving and is sending this message to your brain. If you are too hungry that you can’t focus, then start eating something highly nutritious in the morning like fresh vegetable soup, smoothies with avocado and flax seeds.

  • Do the detox when you are ready! There is no timeline. And if you have a lot of weight to lose, you may want to stay on the diet later anyway and really get some weight down before the detox. You can do the detox week whenever you wish but you must be on the diet for 3 weeks at least so that your body is prepared for detoxing. You can detox later, but try to follow the diet as best as you can so that you really use this time to clean out and get ready for detox.

  • No. Just scoop a few spoonfuls of the first batch into the second batch and put in the oven under the light.
