How Energy Work Supports Physical Healing
The Real Reason You’re Plateauing
You have done everything right.
You cleaned up your diet. You started going to bed earlier. You found a practitioner you actually trust, ran the labs, bought the supplements, and committed to the protocol. And for a while, things got better. You felt a flicker of hope.
And then — nothing. Or worse, things slid back to where they started. The fatigue returned. The gut chaos came back. The anxiety crept in around the edges, quiet but persistent. And that deeper question, the one you don’t always say out loud, started getting louder: why can’t I just get better?
If this is you, I want you to hear something clearly. You are not broken. You are not doing it wrong. And this is absolutely not a willpower problem.
There is a layer of healing that most functional health practitioners never address. And until that layer is tended to, the body has a very hard time holding the changes you are working so hard to make.
That layer is coherence. And energy work is how you get there.
Your Body Isn’t Broken. It’s Stuck in Survival Mode.
Think about a day when nothing was technically wrong, but you could feel it anyway. Your thoughts were scattered. Your body felt braced, like you were waiting for something you couldn’t name. Maybe there was tightness in your chest. Maybe your intuition just went quiet.
Most of us chalk this up to stress. A busy day. A hard week. But what is actually happening in those moments is something far more specific — and far more workable — than stress.
Your nervous system has decided something isn’t safe. That one shift changes everything. Your perception gets filtered through survival. Your choices
narrow. Your body stops prioritizing repair and starts prioritizing protection. And no supplement on earth can override a nervous system in protection mode.
This is why so many women come to me with stacks of perfectly chosen supplements and a body that still feels like it’s fighting them. It’s not the supplements. It’s the internal environment those supplements are trying to work inside.
Meet Your Nervous System — the Receiver You Never Knew You Had
Here is the framework I use in all of my work, and once you understand it, you will never look at your health the same way again.
Your nervous system is a receiver. An antenna. And it is constantly reading every layer of what I call your Inner Ecosystem — your physical body, your mental and emotional body, your spiritual body, and your energy body — asking one primary question underneath almost everything else.
Am I safe?
When the answer is yes, something remarkable happens. Your clarity comes back. Your breath deepens. Your intuition sharpens. You feel present. You feel like you have choices. You move from reacting to responding, from surviving to creating.
When the answer is no, the opposite unfolds. Your system shifts into protection. Your resourcesgo toward managing the threat, real or perceived, rather than toward healing and growth.
This is not a metaphor. This is physiology.
What Regulation and Coherence Actually Mean (In Plain English)
These two words get thrown around a lot in wellness spaces, so let me be specific about what I mean.
Regulation means your body feels settled enough to respond rather than react. You can pause. You can choose. You are in a place of creation rather than default survival.
Coherence means the parts of you are working together. Your body, your emotions, your mind, your intuition, your spirit, your energy — all of it feels lined up rather than pulling in different directions. That is when things start to feel clear.
And then there is what I call the field — the invisible energy around you, sometimes called the Luminous Energy Field in shamanic traditions, that holds information and can be felt in the body as clarity, openness, heaviness, or tension. Your nervous system reads this field too. All of it is data. All of it affects your internal state.
Energy is not mysterious. Energy is information you can feel and sense. The question is how clearly your receiver is reading the signal.
When Safety Goes Offline: What Protection Actually Costs You
When your nervous system decides something is not safe, it activates what I call the protective states. And these go well beyond the fight-or-flight response you have probably heard about. Real life is more nuanced than that.
There is fight. There is flight. There is freeze, where you go numb or shut down. There is fawn, which most people know as people-pleasing. There is cocoon, a kind of retreat. And there is full shutdown.
None of these are personality flaws. They are your receiver doing exactly what it was designed to do. But protection comes with a cost.
When your system is running stress chemistry around the clock — cortisol, the get-through-it hormone — your body is spending resources just to keep that response powered. And that stress response burns through nutrients, particularly minerals. Stress and anxiety have been associated with increased urinary loss of magnesium, which is one of the very minerals that helps your body feel steady in the first place. It becomes a feedback loop. The more depleted you are, the harder it is to regulate. The harder it is to regulate, the more depleted you become.
This is the part that most wellness protocols miss entirely. And it is exactly the piece we address step by step inside The Hummingbird Path, my 12-week program that integrates energy work with root-cause functional health testing. If you want to be among the first to know when enrollment opens, you can join the early bird list here: The Hummingbird Path.
Two Non-Negotiables: Breath and Grounding
So what reliably signals safety to your system? In my work, there are two practices I consider non-negotiable, and neither of them requires a practitioner, a prescription, or a credit card.
The first is breathwork. In this week’s episode, I guided the audience through square breathing — inhale for four counts, pause for four, exhale for four, pause for four — with one simple instruction: let the breath move into your belly, and keep your upper chest fairly quiet. That is it. Simple. And the shift in the room was immediate.
Why does it work? Because it gives your receiver a pattern. A message. I am not running. I am slowing down. I am ready to receive and repair.
The second non-negotiable is grounding. Grounding is both biological and energetic. It is the practice of telling your body through attention, sensation, imagination, and intention: I am supported. I am connected. I am here.
In the episode, I walked the audience through a short grounding meditation — bringing attention into the heart space, imagining a light traveling down through the body, through the floor, through the earth, all the way down to the deep, teeming, microbial richness of the soil. We even said hello to the earth. Yes, out loud. Yes, it felt a little silly. And yes, it worked.
Even a few seconds of grounding can bring you back to your breath, your presence, and your ability to choose how you respond.
The Ancient Secret Modern Medicine Keeps Missing: Coherence with Nature
Here is where it gets deeply shamanic and also incredibly practical at the same time.
Coherence is not only something you create inside yourself. It is also something you receive through relationship. Through what you spend time near. Through what you let your system attune to.
In shamanic tradition, this is called coming into right relationship and reciprocity with the Earth and with other beings. In modern science, the mechanism is called entrainment. When you spend time near a steady rhythm — a calm person, a slow river, a very old tree — your body frequency begins to match that rhythm.
This is why forest bathing is prescribed by doctors in parts of the world and covered by health insurance. Not here in the States yet, but the research is growing and the wisdom is ancient.
Here is the homework I gave the audience this week. Within the next 24 hours, go stand near a tree or a large plant. Do not perform anything. Just be close enough to feel it. Touch it if that feels right. Then ask yourself two questions: what does my body feel like right now, in my chest, in my belly, in my breath? And two minutes later, ask: what has changed?
Let nature set the rhythm. Let your system entrain to something steady.
So What Is Energy Work, Really?
Let me be direct, because this is the part that gets the most skepticism and deserves the clearest answer.
Energy work is not a replacement for physiology. Ever. It is not crystals instead of minerals. It is not breathwork instead of sleep. It is not ceremony instead of a functional lab test.
Energy work is the missing layer that helps your physiology hold the changes you are already working so hard to make.
When we do breathwork, when we ground, when we come into coherence with nature, we are not bypassing the body. We are helping the whole system organize. We are helping the mental and emotional body soften. We are helping the spiritual body come back online. We are helping the energy body become more coherent. And over time, all of that supports the physical body too, because the nervous system is finally opening to rest and repair.
In my work, this unfolds in three phases I call the Trinity.
We begin by restoring the energy body — acknowledging the invisible layer of information around you, learning to sense it and work with it, and using energy work and shamanic practices to bring it back into coherence.
Then we optimize the vessel — supporting the body that carries your life with root-cause mineral testing, functional health foundations, and the kind of practical physical support that most people skip because they are going straight for the hormones before the foundation is solid.
And then we embrace ascension — which is not woo-woo escape from the body. Ascension is becoming free enough to create your life from clarity instead of survival mode. To follow your calling. To dream your world into being rather than simply react to it.
If that path sounds like what you have been looking for, I would love for you to get on the early
bird list for The Hummingbird Path before enrollment opens. You can do that right here: The Hummingbird Path.
You Now Have a Doorway Back to Yourself
Breath. Grounding. Two minutes with a tree. Enough safety to access presence, perception, and the ability to respond rather than react.
That is the doorway. And if you sense there is something more underneath — there is. There always is. But we go into it step by step, in ways that keep you resourced and not overwhelmed. Your body knows how to regulate. It is waiting for you to come into coherence so it can do exactly that.
